Tampa Bay Area Hospitals Offering Complimentary Postnatal Massage

At Morton Plant Hospital and Mease Countryside Hospital, Morton Plant Mease’s women’s services are pampering new moms with postnatal massages offered after delivery in their own private room.

“We have had a positive response from new moms,” said Marcia Albanese, Morton Plant Mease director of women’s and children’s services. “Having a baby is a wonderful experience but it can be overwhelming and our new mom massages can help mothers have a more comfortable experience.”

The complimentary postnatal massages are done by Morton Plant Mease Wellness Centers’ licensed massage therapists. “Postnatal massages are beneficial to new moms after giving birth,” said Stephanie Van Zandt, M.D., Morton Plant Mease Health Care OB/GYN. “Postnatal massages help reduce stress, fatigue, backaches, headaches, postpartum depression and reduce fluid retention for new moms.”

Morton Plant Mease also offers a wide array of support groups for new moms and Baby Boot Camp, a fitness class to help new moms get back into shape after having a baby. Baby Boot Camp incorporates strength-training exercises with cardiovascular drills and core exercises designed to have fun with your child, ages six weeks to four years old. Morton Plant Mease is one of the first hospital-based Baby Boot Camp programs in the nation. For more information on services, visit www.IExpectMore.org.

Of Course you should contact the individual hospitals to find out the individual services that do offer to new moms.     Each hospital has different postnatal and prenatal options for parents.   Postanantal massages are just some of the things to consider.

Some things that other parents have considered when choosing where to deliver:

  • The distance  between home and the hospital
  • The level of  NICU onsite
  • Whether their doctor’s office has privileges at that hospital
  • The C-section rate of that hospital
  • Whether guests have to pay for parking
  • The friendliness of the staff
  • Whether the dads get free meals
  • Whether the rooms are private
  • If there are birthing tubs
