Any Assurance that the Insurance Company Actually Helps

My insurance adjuster came to the house to look at the roof damage we had from last Friday’s heavy rains.  The guy seemed nice.  He was polite and he smiled.  But, he is in the business of saving his company money.

I don’t know how much it will actually cost to repair the roof, but it seems a lot more than what the adjuster wants to give us.  I thought I was paying for home owners insurance so that in the event that there was damage they would actually pay for repair or replacement.

I don’t know if the insurance companies have gotten a lot stingier since the last two hurricane season or if they have always been this way.  This is the first time that I have needed their assistance with my house.  Now it seems that I need assistance dealing with the insurance company.

  1. I can tell you from experience that insurance companies will squeeze every penny they can. These guys are running a business, and they’re running it mercilessly. They’ll do whatever it takes to ensure that their co-payment ends up becoming as low as possible, and you have to take the brunt of the entire expense.
