Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue their love affair with quarterbacks. Their first pick of this year’s draft is quarterback Josh Freeman. Freeman was the a quarterback for for Kansas State University. Hopefully Freeman is a quarterback that will grow with the franchise not be part of the revolving door of Buccaneer quarterbacks.
The Detroit Lions get the first pick of the first round of the NFL Draft and they decided to pick even before the NFL Draft actually begins today at 4 p.m. Earlier today Matthew Stafford, quarterback for University of Georgia, was picked for the Lion’s first round draft pick. Stafford is signing a contract for $78 million over six years and $41.7 million of that is guaranteed. That is quite a lot of money for a 21 year-old young man.
The Detroit lions went 0-16 last season and are looking for a miracle this season. The Lions now have the record for the NFL team with the most losses in one season. That title of having the most losses in a season used to be held by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 1976 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost all their games, but they went 0-14 because fewer games were played in the regular season back then. That is records that the Buccaneers are happy not have anymore.

Mexican border States, California and Texas, have reported cases of people being infected with the swine flu. The swine flu has caused an outbreak that has resulted in the Mexican government shutting down schools and many public buildings.
At least 1,004 people have been sickened and at least 68 have died, primarily in the sprawling capital of Mexico City, triggering officials to close all schools and universities, museums and libraries and to begin screening air travelers for symptoms before they leave the country.
The known occurrences of swine flu in the United States have not led to any deaths. Six cases of swine flu were reported in California and 2 were reported in Texas.
According to the CDC(Centers for Disease Control)
The symptoms of swine flu in people are expected to be similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza and include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Some people with swine flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
To get more information of the Swine Flu visit the Swine Flu Facts from the CDC. There is information of previous cases of the Swine Flu in the United States, ways the Swine flu can be transmitted, and treatments for the Swine Flu.
Tampa was named one of the best places for cat by CATalyst.
What makes a catfriendly city? The love and care cats receive, says the CATalyst Council. Today, the recently formed organization is set to raise the stature of America’s number one companion, the cat, by announcing the ATalyst 2009 Top 10 Cat-Friendly Cities. The CATalyst Council, a coalition of the veterinary community, academia, nonprofits, industry and animal welfare organizations, hopes to call attention to how much the cat is loved and cared for in these cities, and set the bar for other cities to follow in the annual rankings. The cities named include Tampa, Phoenix, San Francisco, Portland (Ore.), Denver, Boston, Seattle, San Diego, Atlanta and Minneapolis. The list was compiled after reviewing the top 25 standard metropolitan areas for such data as cat ownership per capita, level of veterinary care, microchipping and cat-friendly local ordinances.
Cats are great pets-they basically take care of themselves.
You shouldn’t just expect the friend chicken that you have come to expect from KFC. This time around KFC wants you to try their new grilled chicken. As a way to promote this new choice that their restaurants offers, anyone that goes into a KFC on April 27, 2009 can request one piece of their new grilled chicken for free.
Americans have become more health conscious and very careful about what they eat. Restaurants are not rushing to meet the need of a healthier America.
It is great to know that are healthier choices on the menus of fast food restaurants. When you are in a rush you shouldn’t have to choose between healthy and fast. KFC’s new grilled chicken has between 70 to 180 calories and four to nine grams of fat depending on the piece.
A study was recently released that showed that exercise was beneficiall to development of the baby inside of the womb.
The researchers found:
Fetal HR was significantly lower in the exercise group during both breathing and non-breathing movement periods.
Fetal short-term and overall heart rate variability were higher in the exercise group during breathing movements.
Three independent measures of vagal control were higher in the exercise-exposed fetuses during breathing movements.
During periods of fetal non-breathing, there were no significant differences in measures of vagal control between groups. There were no group or breathing period differences in sympathetic heart rate control.
Of course physical activity that a pregnant woman does should be discussed with your doctor. And the type of activity that a woman should do is generally related to how active she was pre-pregnancy and her current health. Swimming and walking are generally two types of physical activity that are safe for pregnant women. Again, this should be discussed with a doctor and evaluated at a case by case basis.
The March of Dimes suggests that pregnant women consume at least 200 milligrams of DHA, one of the three major omega-3 fatty acids, every day to help support fetal brain and eye development. After the baby is born, DHA omega-3 fatty acids consumed through breastfeeding may also help support mental, visual, and motor skill development, Dr. Fleischman says.
Many baby formulas now contain DHA. DHA is found naturally in breast milk. You can also expect to see DHA in prenatal vitamins. Of course you should always read the label to see what each vitamin pill actually contains.
Omega-3 fatty acids are found in certain types of fish, nuts, and vegetable oils. However, DHA is present naturally in specific fatty fish such as salmon, trout, mackerel, sardines and tuna, as well as algal oil, organ meats and breast milk. Pregnant or nursing women or those planning a pregnancy should eat up to 12 ounces of low-mercury content fish per week and avoid high-mercury content fish, Dr. Fleischman advises.

The Pinellas Living Green Expo returns to Clearwater’s Harborview Center with a weekend jam packed with great ideas and solutions on how we can save money and save the environment. The popular event, now in its’ 4th year, is FREE and will be open to the public on Saturday May 2nd and Sunday May 3rd.
It is definitely true that conserving water and energy will help to save money in the pocket book. The Expo is free to the public and has several different seminars to help individuals make their homes more environmentally friendly. Those around Tampa Bay will probably find the Rain Harvesting and Water Conservations very helpful. County and City governments have been placing tighter restrictions on water use and these workshops are much needed.
The theme of the Pinellas Living Green Expo is Save Money… Save the Environment. And, in these uncertain economic times, it has never been more important to make sure we are preserving our dwindling natural resources and moving our society towards sustainability. The Pinellas Living Green Expo will be open from 9am ? 5pm on Saturday… and from 10am ? 4pm on Sunday. The HarborView Center is located at 300 Cleveland St. in Clearwater. Admission is FREE! Parking is FREE! Come spend the day with us.
The City of Clearwater will celebrate Arbor Day on Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Public Services Complex, 1650 N. Arcturas Ave., with a ceremony and tree giveaway. A representative from the Florida Division of Forestry will present the prestigious Tree City USA award to Clearwater. This is the 27th consecutive year Clearwater has been honored as a Tree City USA.
Following the Tree City USA ceremony, Clearwater residents are invited to receive two free trees per household, plant them and watch them grow. Available trees include these species: Live Oak, Shumard Oak, Chickasaw Plum, Red Cedar, Bald Cypress, D. D. Blanchard Magnolia, Red Maple, Slash Pine, Walters Viburnum, and four colors of Crape Myrtles (pink, white, red, and lavender).
More than 1,800 trees will be available on a first-come, first served basis. Proof of Clearwater residency is required. A voter’s registration card, a Florida driver’s license or a recent utility bill can be used to prove residency. City staff will answer questions relating to maintaining and watering the new trees.
Trees are an important part of our environment. They also make the landscape a lot more beautiful. Even if you do not have a green thumb, it is worth just trying to keep a tree alive in your yard. The city provided a list of the types of tree being offered. It probably would be a good idea to research the trees and see which would best suite you before going down to pick one out for yourself.
You would think that they were all waiting for a Black Friday deal. But this was probably a deal better than any other Black Friday sale. Parents were waiting in line to register their children in one of the slots at fro the Tampa Parks and Recreation Summer camps at Kate Jackson Park. These spots go fast and even though registration was opened at 6 p.m. on March 23, 2009 so parents waited in line from at early as 5 a.m.
The city of Tampa has some of the most affordable rates for summer camps in Tampa Bay. Fees for the summer camp start at $70 and then are as low as $15 for those that qualify for the reduced fee because of finances. With some private summer camps running costing hundreds of dollars this is definitely a deal worth waiting for. Registration is ongoing and there are still spaces empty in some of the city of Tampa’s summer camps.
The Rays have won 2 games and lost 4 at Tropicana Field to start the 2009 baseball season. The Rays are traditionally a strong team at home and need to win at home to secure another strong season. Last year the Rays were 55-27 at home and therefore had double the wins to losses at home.
This past week the Rays have commemorated their championship season before each game with some sort of ceremony. For example, last night Evan Longoria received his Rookie of the Year award. Although the Rays are American League Champions, they did not play like it this week. Of course, Evan Longoria was out for a few games due to a death in his family and that was possibly a factor in some of the Rays losses.
Now that we are in a regular season mode, the Rays will hopefully shift gears and start playing like true champions. We know that they have everything they need to win it all this season. They are a great team and they have their home town fans backing them all the way.
If you register on certain days for the 2009 Lowry Park Zoo Summer Camp you can receive 15% off the cost. The upcoming days to receive the 15% discount are May 8, 2009 and May 9, 2009.
Lowry Park Zoos summer camps begin on June 2,2009 and conclude on August 14, 2009.
