Inauguration of President Obama Watched Around the World

Our nation is watching the inauguration of President Obama. The world has joined in watching President Obama being sworn in as the 44h president of the United. Today is a historic day when American has its first African-American President. This says so much about how far America has come. It is not about Republican or Democratic, but about t people being judged “not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Across the globe school children watched the inauguration of President Obama. Children in Jakarta, Indonesia watched in the classroom of a school that President Obama attended as a child. Even though it is night in many places people around the world are watching. People watched at churches in the city of Memphis where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.

Those that gathered to watch in person were there hours before dawn so that they may have a spot to watch President Obama taking the oath of office. In 2005 there were about 400,000 people were on the National Mall. Today about 1 million more people were on the National Mall to watch the inauguration.

Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

I hope that everyone enjoyed this day. Today is a day we spend time with family and think about dreams and service to our fellow man.

Dr. King spent much of his life serving others and was assassinated for having a common sense dream that seemed irrational to many others during the time. We are thankful for him and the many other people that sacrificed for everyone to have equality.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Name New Head Coach

The Buccaneers wasted little time before naming the successor to Jon Gruden. Raheem Morris, the new Buccaneers head coach is very familiar with the Buccaneers team and its players. Morris is a young coach, 32 years-old, and has never been a head coach. He does have a history with the Bucs, which is a positive.

Morris was named the defensive coordinator for the Buccaneers after Monte Kiffin announced he will join his son, Lane Kiffin, as the defensive coordinator at the University of Tennessee. Morris started the 2007 season as the Bucs defensive backs coach. His first stint with the Bucs, 2002-2005, began as a defensive quality control coach, defensive assistant, and assistant defensive backs coach. He left the team after the 2005 season to become the defensive coordinator of Kansas State University.

The Buccaneers are starting a new era in history with a new head coach and a new general manager. It is also necessary for the Bucs to now find a new defensive coordinator to replace Morris. The Bucs will have a fresh start to the 2009 season. Hopefully, that will be just what is needed to jump start the Bucs into a national power in the NFL.

Jon Gruden has Been Fired from the Buccaneers

Jon Gruden, the coach that led the Buccaneers to their first and only Super Bowl has been fired from the Buccaneers. It has been six years since the Buccaneers became Super Bowl champions. The Buccaneers have only made it to the playoffs twice since their Super Bowl win, and both were wildcard appearances that they lost.

Gruden’s departure from the Buccanneers leaves us wondering who will replace Gruden and where will Gruden coach in 2009. He has great potential as a NFL coach and it would not be surprising for him to do well in his next coaching position. With the firing of Jon Gruden, there is also the question of what will become of his brother Jay Gruden . He has been working part time as the offensive assistant since 2002. Will Jay be let go or will he be able to keep his job?

It may not take long for Jon Gruden to find his new job. Jon puts a lot of passion into his coaching and other teams will benefit from his talent. It is possible he could land in New York as the Jets head coach. The Jets reportedly have their eye on Rex Ryan, the current Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator. However, that was before the news of Jon Gruden became known on Friday evening. If Gruden becomes the new Jets head coach, will he convince Brett Favre to extend his career another season? Brett Favre and Jon Gruden have had a close relationship since Gruden was the quarterback coach in Green Bay as Favre was starting his career. Whatever happens, we can rest assured that Gruden will land on his feet and hopefully the Bucs will get the fresh start they are looking for.

Tony Dungy Retires From the NFL

Tony Dungy has retired from coaching and is embarking on new endeavors. Dungy was head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996 to 2001. Dungy was at the helm of the Buccaneers when they changed their course from one of the worst teams in the NFL to true contenders. After leaving the Buccaneers Dungy continued to have winning seasons in his new head coaching job with the Indianapolis Colts. Although he may have left his position in Tampa Bay, Dungy continues to call the area home by keeping a home in the area.

His retirement is not forced, but is from his desire to spend more time with his family and work on some other passions that he has in his life. He has said that once he retires from his coaching position with the Indianapolis Colts that he would not be returning to NFL as a coach. Although we know is known for being a man of his word, I am sure so teams would not mind if he changed his mind.

What is a Sooner?

What is a Sooner? Yeah. I know I am not the only one to ask that question. The Oklahoma Sooners are playing the University of Florida Gators in the BCS title game at Dolphin Stadium and most of us know what a gator is but at least half of America is wonder what is a Sooner.

Sooner is the name first applied about six months after the Land Run of 1889 to people who entered the Oklahoma District (Unassigned Lands) before the designated time. The term derived from a section in the Indian Appropriation Act of March 2, 1889, which became known as the “sooner clause.” It stated that no person should be permitted to enter upon and occupy the land before the time designated in the president’s opening proclamation and that anyone who violated the provision would be denied a right to the land.

That was our little history lesson that the kids can take back to school and impress their teacher.

Just throwing this out there. A gator is an alligator. You probably already knew this one but just in case you forgot.

Pat Burrell Coming to Rays

Pat Burell has been added to the Tampa Bay Rays’ roster. Burrell was signed a 2 year contract with the Rays.

Burrell hit 33 home runs for the Philadelphia Phillies last season, while batting .250 with 86 runs batted in. The outfielder spent his entire nine-year career in Philadelphia and will probably be Tampa Bay’s designated hitter.

Jeb Bush for President in 2012

Another Bush in the White House? George Bush Sr. thinks that it would be a great idea.

Jeb Bush is the current president’s younger brother and a former popular governor of Florida. He is mulling a run for Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla.

Asked in a broadcast interview about Jeb Bush’s consideration of the Senate seat, Bush 41 said: “I’d like to see him run. I’d like to see him be president someday.”

When asked if he was serious, he said: “Or maybe senator. Whatever. Yes, I would. I mean, right now is probably a bad time, because we’ve had enough Bushes in there. But no, I would. And I think he’s as qualified and able as anyone I know on the political scene. Now, you’ve got to discount that. He’s my son.”

The former president spoke on “Fox News Sunday” in an interview that was taped Friday in Houston.

Jeb Bush was pretty popular in Florida. He was able to serve as governor for 2 full terms. With him as a candidate for president it is possible for him to carry the state of Florida. Who knows what will happen. The campaigning for the next election will probably begin in the next 2 years and a lot has to do with international affairs and the economy- things that can changed dramatically in a couple years.

Wouldn’t it be great for Tony Dungy to Coach a Super Bowl at Raymond James Stadium?

I am a romantic at heart. I love those full circle moments where dreams are realized and the good guy comes out on top. I believe that Tony Dungy is a good guy. Sure he has flaws. Who doesn’t? But he is a man that has a good character. That character has had me cheering for him when he coached for the Buccaneers and now as he coaches the Indianapolis Colts.

Now that he is in the playoffs and has a chance to make it all the way to the Super Bowl I think that it would be poetic if he could actually coach a Super Bowl game at Raymond James Stadium. He calls Tampa home and has made a home for himself and his family in Tampa Bay and it would be great for everyone here to be part of that moment with him.

If the Buccaneers were heading to the Super Bowl I would have to say that hometown loyalty would win out and I would be stretching my vocal chords to the limit cheering for the Bucs, but the Buccaneers are not in the playoffs.

But if we have to talk about loyalty then there is the issue of the Dolphins also being in the same conference as the Colts. If the Colts have to go against the Dolphins, let’s just say I would be riding the waves. As Kennedy is to politics, I am to the Dolphins; we go hand in hand.

So as I think more, it would be great for Tony Dungy to play in the Super Bowl this year, but then again, it would be better if the Dolphins did.

Enough Room in the Womb for 14 lb Baby

Wow! A mom delivered a 14lb 2 oz baby in California on December 23rd. The baby was delivered via c-section and had to have two doctors to pull him out the womb.

Richard Sault Jr. is the largest baby ever delivered at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center – and possibly in Orange County, California, according to veteran doctors and an informal check of other major county hospitals.

“That’s a big baby,” Marty Wright, department manager of labor and delivery at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, told the newspaper. During her 21 years at the hospital, about 102,000 babies have been delivered.
