There are great reasons to have a library card and now you can add one more to the list. Hills borough County library card holders can now download free music.
Library card holders can now download three free music downloads each week from the Sony Music Entertainment Catalog through a new online service called Freegal.
To download music, visit www.hcplc.org and click on Books, Movies and Music. Enter the barcode on your library card, and then follow the prompts to the Freegal site. Once there, library card holders can download up to three free songs each week (Monday through Sunday) onto any computer. They will play on any MP3 player, iPod, Smartphone, laptop or tablet computer.
Freegal is a music download service that accesses the Sony Music Entertainment Catalog to offer hundreds of thousands of songs in 100 genres of music through more than 50 record labels.
I would have suspected that this would infringe on copyright laws. Since this is technically file sharing but on a more corporate level since it is an organisation which is allowing this.
Great post! glad to hear that a library is using this tattic to attract new people to the library. i wish our local library did cool things like offer free music.
O really! It means that library card holders can download quality music. That’s really nice. Thanks for the share.
You can also download ebooks now too, most formats available including those for the Nook and Kindle 🙂
I lived in Brandon for 37 years. This is a nice website for Tampa. Thanks for sharing.
