Residents of the city of Sarasota can participate in the city’s “Gun Buy Back” program on 
September 8, 2007 from 9am to 5 pm. Guns can be turned in to the NEWTOWN POLICE SUBSTATION 1782 DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. WAY.
Handguns, shotguns as well as assault rifles and other illegal firearms will be bought back. Guns must be in working condition and unloaded.

I think gun buy backs are a good thing, in general, but I don’t think the problem is that guns are in the community. I doubt that many criminals are handing in their weapon of choice for a few bucks to the cops, unless that gun is so abused that it’s no longer functional.
