Just Read Florida, High School Essay Contest

Just Read Florida has an essay contest open to high school students.

Florida High School Students can compete for:
First Place – $5,000 scholarship
Second Place – $2,500 scholarship
Third Place – $1,000 scholarship

Florida High School Students, here’s what to do:

    1. In 1,500 words or less, write about: In Chapter 29 of The Zero Game, as Viv is about to go to South Dakota to help Harris, she asks her roommate to cover for her absence, and she tells her mother that she’s going on an overnight trip to Monticello. Did she do the right thing? Why or why not? Describe a situation in your own life when you were faced with conflicting moral choices and how you resolved that conflict.
    2. Submit your essay online – click here.
      DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION is midnight, January 31, 2007.
    3. A panel of volunteers from across Florida will judge and select the Top 3 Winners.
    4. The winners will be notified in February
    5. In addition to the college fund prizes noted above, the first place winner’s essay will be published in Beginnings, a journal for first-time writers published by the Florida Center for the Literary Arts at Miami-Dade College.
