AIDS-25 years later

Today marks 25 years since the first AIDs case diagnosis.  If your old enough to be a parent you are probally old enough to remember how frantic and crazy those early years were.   There are now drugs available to help keep those who are infected well, but there is still no cure.   But not all people can be kept alive by these drugs.
As parents we should continue to educate our children about AIDS, and practice safe behaviours ourselves.    The Associated Press press has an article about three lives affected by the HIV virus.  One of those people is a 24 year old man who contracted the disease as a toddler through a blood transfusion.    It is amazing that so many people have lived with the disease for so long ,when in the beginning it was thought of as an instant killer.

That is not to say that the disease should not be taken a seriously.  There are strains of the disease that have become resistant to current treatments.  Viruses can mutate and the HIV is not exception.

What we do know is we should continue to demostrate compassion, and  educate our children and ourselves.
