AT&T estimates that they will be creating 350 additional jobs in the state of Florida. These jobs are going to be in the Network and Call Center areas of the company. They are being posted at : http://connect.att.jobs/ as the do become available
TECO(Tampa Electric Company) is requesting that they be allowed to raise their rates by 10%. The company last asked for a rate increase in 2008. The current request will go before Florida’s Public Service Commission later this year. If approved, the rate increase will not be seen until January 2014.
According to TECO, the increased rate will bring in an extra $135 million. Hopefully they can use that money to find ways to prevent squirrels from knocking out the power.
From March through August, every first Tuesday of month there will be a free Playin’ in the Park event at Curtis Hixon Park in downtown Tampa. For those that are attending the fit Playin’ in the Park, there were will be different activities for the children, and some free samples. It will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. , so you can even bring younger children, and kids that attend school during the day.
The event also corresponds to the Target Tuesday at the Glazer Children’s Museum. So while you are downtown you can enjoy both events.

Tuesday, April 2nd, is Target Tuesday at Glazer Children Museum in Tampa. Children and accompanying adults will get free admission from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Only adults that are with children are admitted, and all children must be accompanied with an adult. Target Tuesday is usually the first Tuesday of the every month.
This month’s Target Tuesday will feature appearances from the curious little monkey –Curious George. His appearances are scheduled to be at 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 6 p.m.

IKEA Easter Egg Hunt
You can get about everything at IKEA , even the opportunity to watch your kids run looking for Easter Eggs at the IKEA in Tampa. This event is only for kids 8 and under. In 2012 Brittany Wenger won the Google Science Fair for her Cloud4Cancer science project that is a computer program aimed to help detect malignancy of breast cancer. Once again Brittany placed in an international competition by winning 8th place in the Intel Science Talent Search. She has not only the intelligence but a lot of drive. She actually taught herself how to program and spent hundreds of hours working on her project.
Brittany is a senior at The Out-of-Door Academy in Sarasota, High School. The Out-of-Door Academy has a great article on Brittany and her Grand Prize Win of the Google Science Fair. In the article it also states that Brittany has won the Sarasota Regional Science, Engineering, and Technology Fair.

Currently, there is a Saks Fifth Avenue store in Westfield Southgate Mall in Sarasota. In 2014 that location will close as the Saks Fifth Avenue will move to The Mall at University Town Center that is currently being built off of 1-75 in Sarasota . Kids from Tampa Bay have included in the Republican National Convention in one way or another: kids from the Tampa Bay Youth and Government group created signs for the convention; local children were invited to participate in a poster contest for the RNC. Tomorrow, students from Gaither High School, in Tampa, will help to prepare for the convention by blowing up over 120,000 balloons. These red, white, and blue balloons will be a part of the large balloon drop that have become a highly photographed moment of the conventions. No matter what your political affiliation, it is great for children to be a part of the political process and hopefully encourage them to become informed citizens.

Tampa’s successful bid for the 2012 Republican National Convention has created opportunities for many residents and businesses in the Tampa Bay area. Westfield Brandon will have the grand opening of their new Sesame Street themed play area this Friday. The new play area is a part of a partnership between the mall and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Books-A-Million at the Brandon Westfield mall will be having a Super Why event in their stores on July 19th. Super Why is an educational cartoon that appears every weekday on PBS. The program teaches early reading skills while discovering life lessons from classic children’s stories. Children at the Book-a-Million event will get story time, snack, and craft time. The first 75 children will also get a free Super Why book. The event starts at 4 p.m.
Once again, Regal Cinemas will be showing previously released G and PG children movies this summer for only $1 per person. The Republican National Convention not only will help give Tampa an economic boost, but also a new playground area. Human and Kaboom are teaming up to build a new playground at Ragan Park in East Tampa. This year both organizations plan to build playgrounds in the two cities hosting the politic conventions. Charlotte,North Carolina, the host of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, will also get a new playground built courtesy of a Humana and Kaboom.
Tampa’s new playground will be part of community effort of more than 200 volunteer gathering at Ragan Park on August 11th to create a multigenerational playground. In addition to the traditional playground equipment for children, there will be fitness stations and walking paths that adults can use to get fit and stay active.
