When is Hurricane Season?

Hurricane season is between June 1st and November 30th of each year. This is a long stretch. In the last few years it feels that Hurricane season is all year long in Florida. Neighbors trim trees more often and there are more automatic shutters on windows. Throughout the year people are preparing for Hurricanes.

Ever since Charlie, back in 2004, people have been getting prepared for that next tropical disturbance. How prepared are we actually? There are homes across the state that have blue tarps from last hurricane season. Try as they may, how prepared can those folks be for a hurricane? Roofers have actually come from other states, but that still has not been enough to repair all the damage roofs across Florida.
But the state has learned from the gas shortages that occurred after Hurricane Wilma, and are prepareing to have some gas stations run on generators. The problem with the gas shortage in South Florida after Wilma was the lack of electricity to run the gas pumps.

People, in general, have also learned a lot. Hopefully there are less peole that want to ride out the storm when told to evacuate.

Verizon Cable now in City of Tampa

The Tampa City Counicl has approved Verizon Cable to provide services within th City of Tampa. Right now the only cable provider in Tampa is Brighthouse. Now with Verizon the competition will most likely help reduce cable prices.

The following is  information from TBO.com

THE CONTRACT

Here are some things Verizon agreed to do in its cable TV agreement with Tampa:

  • Pay city $1 million upfront and 65 cents per subscriber.
  • Provide free cable TV service to 82 city-owned buildings and 88 school buildings.
  • Provide six channels for public, education and government access programs.

Recent abandoned babies

Recent stories of abandoned babies found dead-(one in Lakeland and another in Tampa)- makes anyone feel sadness. The state of Florida makes it possible for anyone to drop off an unwanted newborn at a firehouse, and hospital with no questions asked.

Tampa bay’s 10 recently did a story about one 17 year-old that was abandoned as an infant and later found when a 10 year-old boy hear him crying. He is now a happy teenager with dreams of a bright future. This should let everyone know that these babies are precious and can have beautiful futures.

My advice to anyone mother who does not want her baby is to bring that baby to a firehouse or hospital. Do not have that sweet baby suffer; there is someone that is willing to care for and love him or her.
