The Only baby Einstein video I have is a VHS I purchased back in 2001. I actually am satisfied with it because all my kids like the music and visuals. I never thought it would make them smarter, but I am guilty of letting them watch too much television. It is recommended that children under the age of 2 not get any television watching time at all. I cannot say that I have obeyed that rule.

Although it isn’t a Surprise, Bucs loss to New England Hard to Face

We knew that the Buccaneers were headed into a tough game as team with no regular season wins against a Super Bowl champion team that had just plummeted a winless team last week. The week before the New England defeated the Tennessee Titans 59-0. It really did not look too good for the Buccaneers as they were literally set to be seen internationally.

Although the defeat to the New England Patriots was not as bad as the Tennessee Titans experienced last week, the Patriots did take the Buccaneers to school and show them who was the student and who was the teacher. Even though it was not a complete shutout, the Buccaneers lost the game 35-7.

One thing to remember is that Tampa Bay Buccaneers are building themselves backup and need some time to mature and develop, however these growing pains and losses are a little too hard to bare.

The Buccaneers has a bye week and they can use that time to regroup and assess what is really causing them crumble.

Carolina Panthers Tops Tampa Bay Buccaneers With Running Game

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are off to their worst start in 24 years. Lucky for the Carolina Panthers, who switched to the running game just in time to pull out a 28-21 win over the struggling Bucs.

Panthers QB Jake Delhomme passed for a meager 65 yards (9 for 17) with a touchdown and two potentially costly interceptions before running backs DeAngelo Williams (150 yards on 30 carries) and Jonathan Stewart took over. Williams scored twice including the game winning drive with 29 seconds remaining.

Tampa Bay has scored an anemic 89 points all year long and things look to get worse when they travel this week to London to play the New England Patriots, who just last week took out their aggression on another win less team, the Tennessee Titans, with a 59 – 0 drubbing. They are currently enduring a 10 game losing streak, which is their longest since they lost an NFL record 26 games in a row way back in 1977.

Carolina at one point had a commanding 21 – 7 lead, but they proceeded to make the game interesting via poor special teams play, giving up a 97 yard kickoff return and a 26 yard interception return in the second half that allowed the Panthers to crawl back.

The Panthers also had to do without the services of safety Dante Wesley after his late ejection in the first half for needlessly barreling into punt returner Clifton Smith after he had signaled for a fair catch. Wesley has since been suspended one game by the NFL. Smith did not return to the game as he suffered a concussion from the play.

With both teams battling it out at the bottom of the NFC south, at least Carolina has a 2 game win streak going on, although squeaking by the 2 – 4 Washington Redskins and the winless Bucs isn’t cause for much optimism, especially with the Atlanta Falcons and excellent New Orleans Saints looking down on both teams.

The two teams will meet again in early December, at which point both their grim fates may have already been decided.

The City of Tampa Water Department requests your help in an important research project designed to advance understanding of issues affecting public acceptance of water reuse and desalination.

The research is sponsored by the WateReuse Foundation, an educational, nonprofit public benefit corporation that conducts applied research on behalf of the water and wastewater community to help advance the science of water reuse, recycling, reclamation and desalination. The research project is titled WRF 07-03
Talking About Water: Vocabulary and Images that Support Informed Decisions About Water Recycling and Desalination.

The language we use and the images and concepts that are associated with our language may be a barrier to communication. The results of this study will help to raise awareness in the water industry of how and why perceptions/misperceptions are generated. Your input can help the water industry address appropriate ways to communicate.

Hurry, because only two (2) people, randomly selected, out of the first 400 (four hundred) Tampa Water Department Customers to participate in the survey will be eligible for the $100 (one-hundred dollars). Time is limited so please click on this link http://www.panel.decisionresearch.org/Water_Survey.html and help us now with this critical research.

Thank you for your help and interest in how to promote a better understanding of water and we thank you in advance for your time and effort. If you have any questions about this research project, please e-mail Sandra.Anderson@TampaGov.net.

The survey did begin last week and I am not sure how many spaces are left of the 400 spots mentioned.

Insurance Company Denies “Overweight” Baby Insurance Coverage

It is amazing the policies that insurance companies have in place. A baby was denied insurance coverage because his weight is in 95th growth percentile. The insurance company said the little baby was too overweight to receive health insurance. The father was able to bring the plight he and his family were experiencing to the attention of the media. After some scrutiny, the health insurance company decided to remove their “overweight” baby policy.

Anyone who has been around babies knows that they come in different sizes and just because they start off plump doesn’t mean they will not lose the weight. There are skinny babies that become obese adults and plump babies that become skinny adults. It is good that the insurance company finally saw the light and stopped denying health insurance to babies that have weights that are in the higher percentile.

Warning Signs the Flu Has Taken a Turn for the Worse

The flu usually goes away over time, whether it is the seasonal flu or the H1N1 virus. However, there are sometime when the flu can become worse and parents are urged to look for the signs.

According to a CDC:

Even children who have always been healthy before or had the flu before can get a severe case of flu. Call or take your child to a doctor right away if your child of any age has:

  • Fast breathing or trouble breathing
  • Bluish or gray skin color
  • Not drinking enough fluids
  • Severe or persistent vomiting
  • Not waking up or not interacting
  • Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
  • Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
  • Has other conditions (like heart or lung disease, diabetes, or asthma) and develops flu symptoms, including a fever and/or cough.warning signs.

Most people with 2009 H1N1 have had mild illness and have not needed medical care and the same is true of seasonal flu. However, the flu can be serious, especially for young children (risk is highest in children younger than 2 years) and children of any age who have certain chronic medical conditions. These conditions include asthma or other lung problems, diabetes, weakened immune systems, kidney disease, heart problems and neurological and neuromuscular disorders. Children with these conditions can have more severe illness from any flu, including from the 2009 H1N1 flu virus.

If you have any questions, contact your child pediatrician. For information on H1N1 virus you can visit the CDC web site.

He is now a free agent that is being looked at by several teams.

Buccaneers Remain Winless

Again, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers leave a game defeated and down. It really has become an old song of defeat that the Buccaneers have been singing. It really feels like someone has stolen my ice cream cone and is eating it in my face. The games are just so hard to watch. Although the games have become a little hard to watch for Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans, the die-hard fans are not going anywhere. We know that it will take time as the Buccaneers rebuild, but how much time is hard to know. It is obvious that the team needs to rebuild and they will. Now they stand at 0-5, after being defeated by the Philadelphia Eagles with a final score of 33-14.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Lose Another Game…So Close But So Far Away

Another game and another loss for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On Sunday the Buccaneers were defeated 13-16 by the Washington Redskins. It was the 4th straight defeat for the Bucs. All season the Buccaneers have gone without one regular season win.

We can chalk the losses up to some growing pains. Things have changed a lot since last season. There’s a new offensive coordinator and head coach. We have a new batch of quarterbacks. Maybe the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are like a new pair of gloves that just need to be stretched out a bit before they fit just right. As the Buccaneers adjust and stretch things will start fit right into place and they will start to shine. I can’t say everything will happen this season, but by next season it should all work out okay.

Tampa -St. Petersburg- Clearwater One of the Worst Places for Jobs

Forbes recently put out its top 10 list for the worst places for jobs. The Tampa –St .Petersburg-Clearwater area was #9 on the list. Much of the reason is due to mortgage crisis that this area and many areas Florida area experiencing. Also on the list was the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Boynton Beach, Florida area. That area was #6 on the list.

Meanwhile, cities with formerly robust economies–like Reno, Nev., Las Vegas, Orlando, Fla., Tampa, Fla., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., West Palm Beach, Fla., Jacksonville, Fla., and Phoenix–are more likely to rebound. These areas topped our list for much of the 2000s; their success was driven first by surging population and job growth and later by escalating housing prices.

But the collapse of the housing bubble and a drop in large-scale migration from other regions has weakened, often dramatically, these perennial successes. “We could rely on 1,000 people a week moving into the area,” notes one longtime official in central Florida. “These people needed services, houses and bought stuff. Now the growth is a 10th of that.”

As the market stabilizes we should see an increase in jobs. Once our housing market has improved we can expect to see more economic stability. Banks seem to be learning a little from their past mistakes. I have seen some instances where banks are putting stipulations on the foreclosed homes that they are selling. Some are requiring that the home not be purchased by an investor, and that it be owner occupied. In the Tampa Tribune, it mentioned that the areas in Tampa Bay that suffered the greatest loss in home equity were the ones with the most investor bought homes during the housing boom.

Students and Community make GED donations

The Tampa Bay community and former students have reached out to help future GED test takers take their GED exam. Even in this time s of economic woes, there are still many who have sacrificed to give what they can. Community members have been donated money to cover the cost of taking the GED tests. Although many places do offer free GED test preparation classes, there is a fee to take the tests.

It really is great to see members of the community chip in to help one another. It is hard to find a job, but not having a high school diploma makes it even more difficult. These donations are really helping people support themselves and their families. When someone passes the GED they receive a Florida High School diploma and it is accepted by most colleges and employers.
