Simplicity Cribs Linked to Infant Deaths are Recalled

Several different cribs have been recalled because of the risk of suffocation. A gap can form that can lead to the baby becoming trapped and then suffocating. The deaths associated with this have been because the drop-down bar was installed upside down. There were some reported incidents when the cribs were installed properly. The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Simplicity has more information about the crib recalls and what you should do if your baby is sleeping in a recalled crib.

Some of the cribs are under the Graco label, so if you have a Graco crib please view the Consumer Product Safety Commission web site to see if you baby’s crib is included in the recalls.

Buccaneers win over the St. Louis Rams

The Buccaneers are walking around Tampa Bay with a new pep in their step. Buccaneer fans are excited about this 2 game winning spree that the Buccaneers are on. Some may not think 2 games is a winning spree, but in Tampa Bay will say that two wins equals a winning spree.

Yesterday the Buccaneers beat the St. Louis Rams 24-3 at Raymond James Stadium. Wins like this are great because it shows that Buccaneers can give another team a good spanking.

Several players, including quarterback Chris Simms, were declared inactive.

Buccaneers have their first win for the 2007 Regular Season

The Buccaneers are trying to leave the past losing seasons behind them with their first win of the 2007 regular season. The Buccaneers beat the New Orleans Saints 31-14. The Buccaneers now have a 1-1 record, which is better than last year when they started the season with a pitiful 4 losses. They went on to have a 4-12 record, which included two losses against the New Orleans Saints. This win against the Saints is hopefully a testament to the fact they are a far better team than they were last year.

Mattel has recalled several Toys because of Lead

Mattel has announced the recall of several toys because they contain lead based paint. The recall extends to many popular toys that were manufactured with lead based paint in China. The recall includes several Barbie accessories, Big Big World 6-in-1 Bongo Band toys, and Geo Trax Locomotive toys. Last month August Mattel announced a recall of several of its Dora and Sesame Street toys because they were painted with lead based paint. Mattel and the consumer Product have more details and images of the recalled toys.

Doing a search on the Consumer Product Safety Commission web site will yield many recalls of products made with lead based paint. With the hazards of being exposed to lead base paint, these recent recalls highlight the fact that new guidelines need to be in place before these products are placed in the hands of children. A test should be done on a sample of toys before they are ever placed in stores. It should not be the parents’ responsibility to find out if the toy that their children play with is painted with lead based paint. Manufacturers need to stop cutting corners and make the safety of children a top priority.

High School Senior College Application Process

Now is the time of year that high school senior begins applying to different colleges and universities, if they have not already done so. The application process begins long before senior. Many would say that it begin when a student begin making a schedule of their ninth grade classes. Once a student enters ninth grade the grades that begin to make will affect their college admissions process.

Seniors should not be dismayed if they have a less than stellar gpa. There are opportunities to go to different schools across the state of Florida and the United States. The student can also work extra hard during their senior year to try to improve their gpa. Of course work done during the senior year will not have an overly dramatic effect, but it does have the ability of make some small improvements in the overall high school gpa.

Also those with low gpa have the opportunity to offset their low gpa with a high score on the college admissions test. Most college and universities will accept both the ACT and SAT test.

Some students have taken the SAT and ACT during their 11th grade year. Some high school 10th graders have also taken the PSAT test and that has provided some practice in taking the SAT. High school senior should talk to their school guidance counselor about these tests and college planning.

The test scores, academic record, and extracurricular activities all play a role in college admission and should not be taken lightly. High school seniors have the opportunity in improving all three aspects. The test scores can be improved by studying different portions of the test. The academic record can also be improved by working hard to make A’s during the senior year, and students also have plenty of opportunity to participate in different extracurricular activities.
