Valentine’s Day is Wednesday February 14, 2007

Categories:  Valentine's Day

Valentines Day is in two days and for those with a sweetie that they would like to remain sweet don’t forget to show your love. Words are nice, but a little bit of nonverbal expression is always great. Flowers and chocolate seem to be the fallback gifts when no others gifts come to mind. Although I do like flowers and chocolate, a little originality would not hurt. Expressing your love is what Valentine’s Day is all about. One way to do this is by personalizing the gift that is given and make the gift go along with the personality and likes of the person that the gift is being given to. Think back and try to remember what makes that person smile or laugh. Hopefully you will not have to think that far back to understand what brings joy to his or her heart. Choose something that will help your sweetie’s eyes sparkle. If you can not figure out a gift you can always go to the failsafe chocolate and flowers, but try to throw in some conversation time so you get to know your loved one.

Grammy Night was Dixie Chicks’ Night

Categories:  Music, Women

The Dixie Chicks walked away with Grammy award after Grammy award. Those Texas Ladies really came back with a bang. They may not be Ready to Make Nice, but the Grammy Awards were nice to them. Their Grammy wins included Album of the year, record of the year, and song of the year.

This is a testimony to the fact that things might be down and but they do not stay that way forever.

Make Copies of All Your Rebate Information

Categories:  Everyday Life, Money & Finance

Mailing in rebates are sometimes one of the most unnecessarily tedious things. Number 1:Keep a copy of all your rebate information. Every time I have purchased a computer, in 2001 and in 2006 ,I have used rebates. Each time the rebate department has sent back a letter saying that the information was incorrect.

The most recent time, I received a letter stating that I purchased the computer outside the promotional dates. After having a look at the information on my receipt and the rebate form, I saw that the rebate department had made a mistake. I called and they said I would have to resubmit the information with the letter they had sent me. I then asked the customer service representative if they could just look at the information I originally sent them. He told me that their policy was to destroy the information after processing the rebate and that I would have to resubmit my documents.

Well, I did resubmit, and they processed the rebate but I only received half of what I was supposed to receive. After contacting the rebate department another time, they did send the other half of my money.

Now, rebates can become tedious and that is why you should always make copies of all your information.

Decluttering-Thanks to Oprah

Categories:  Everyday Life, Home Life

I am in the decluttering my house right now. Oprah had a show about it yesterday and that just propelled me into decluttering mode. She has had shows before about organizing and decluttering and I have said I would do it and I have done some and then went back to my old ways. Now I am really trying to make it all work and there are tons of stuff that are going into the garbage cans and donation piles.

There are things that I have not used in years that has just been taking up a ridiculous amount of space all over my house. I have about six different yellow and white pages. Why does anyone need sooo….. many phone books? Now with the internet there is almost no need for any phone book. But I am revved-up. Hopefully I can keep up the momentum and finish the task. It is actually starting to shape-up as some of the unneeded things ship-out.

Revamping the FCAT

Categories:  FCAT, Tampa Bay Parent, education

The FCAT has been a thing of hot contention for years among parents, teachers, students, and law makers for years. There are many considerations for the reworking of the FCAT and its impact on students. At the moments passing the FCAT is pivotal to students graduating Florida public high school with a diploma and to whether 3rd graders can go on to the 4th grade.

Now the main and most guaranteed change will be that the FCAT will be updated to reflect the updates in the Sunshine State Standards.

2007 Super Bowl Ads

Categories:  Football, Television

Some folks just can not get enough of those Super Bowl ads. Some were just were so weak, like the GoDadddy ad: that totally lacked originality. My favorites were the Careerbuilder.com ads and the Oprah/David Letterman ad. Yeah I did like the Sierra Mist ad that showed the guy with the beard comb over. Well, it is after game day and if you want to check out the Super Bowl ads for 2007 they are posted on the CBS.com web site.

Peyton Manning named the Super Bowl MVP

Categories:  Football, Sports and Recreation

Peyton Manning was named the Super Bowl MVP. This is affirmation to the fact that he is a great quarterback. It was certainly a team effort that made everything happen, but only one player can be MVP. I am sure that most of tthe other players don’t mind since they have a Super Bowl ring. Peyton did walk away with a red Cadillac Escalade.

29-17 Dungy and the Colts go all the way

Categories:  Football, Sports and Recreation, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It was a good game from the start. We have to give Lovee Smith and the Chicago Bears their props, because they certainly deserve it. Although the Bears did come with it on game day, the Colts won the Super Bowl. Yessss…..!!!! Colts won 29-17 over the Bears and just showed us that it ain’t over till it is over. The first quarter kick-off return by the Bears may have had some sweating, but we know that the Colts have come back from worse.

Now Dungy has his first Super Bowl ring as a coach. I am so happy for him. Congratulations coach Dungy. Congratulation to Peyton Manning . He had his nay sayers also, now he has a Super Bowl ring to show that his game has a lot of bling. Gooo…..!!! Colts!!!

Oprah, David Letterman Super Bowl Commercial

Categories:  Football, Television

It was funny, the Oprah Winfrey-David Letterman Commercial. If you can remember from years back, David Letterman had a Oprah journal that he would go over every night. Oprah had never been on his show and he wanted her to come on so badly, or so it seemed. She did go on his show a while back when she was promoting the play “The Color Purple.” Now they are making commercials together, who would of thought it.

Chicago have 7 points and 14:46 still left in the first quarter !!

Categories:  Florida, Football

The Quarter just started and the Chicago bears already have 7 points. Hester came with a first quarter kick-off return and went all the way. Hester is on familiar grounds since he is from South Florida and played during his college career at the University of Miami.

The Colts have come back from worse and can still make it. It ain’t over till it is over.

NFL Super Bowl video showing “I play for”

Categories:  Football

I loved that NFL pre-game commercial “I play for.” It just showed that the family, friends, and inspirations in the lives of the players. The game is about the emotion. I did not know that Peyton Manning had an older brother, Cooper Manning. Due to an unexpected disease Cooper’s football career was ended early. Cooper was the one, according to the video, that Peyton is playing for.

Today is the day for Dungy’s first Super Bowl ring

Categories:  Football, Tampa, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Today is the day for Dungy’s first Super Bowl ring. No secrets, I do want Dungy to win the Super Bowl and walk away with his first Super Bowl ring. It just was so bitter-sweet to see the Bucs win in 2003, right after Dungy was fired from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers franchise. For years after, that I have been cheering on Dungy and the Indianapolis Cols. Not only is Tony Dungy a great coach, but he is a man with an excellent character.

This is not to take away from Lovee Smith and the Chicago Bears. They can win the Super Bowl next year, but this is Tony Dungy’s year. GOOOOOO…………………..Colts!!!
