
As of the 5 am National Hurricane Center advisory, Hurricane Fred had maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. The storm is no immediate threat to land. Fred is expected to become a major hurricane, with maximum sustained wind of at least 110 mph, by the end of today. On Thursday it is forecasted to begin weakening. Fred, a category 2 hurricane, is currently moving west-northwest and is located 13.2N 31.7W

The Lafayette Regional Airport is getting $2 million from the federal government to repair 2008 hurricane damage.
The repair of the airport is from the damage caused by Hurricane Gustav (which made landfall in Louisiana on September 1, 2008) and Hurricane Ike (which made landfall in Galveston, Texas on September 1,2008). Both Hurricane Ike and Hurricane Gustav caused billions of dollars in damage. The names Ike and Gustav have been retired.

Tropical Storm Erika has broken apart and is not expected to reform.
SHOWER ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMNANTS ERIKA HAS DIMINISHED.
UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN HIGHLY UNFAVORABLE FOR
RE-DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM.

Tropical Storm Erika is making her way across the Caribbean. Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued for Guadeloupe, St. Martin, St. Barthelemy, Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla, St. Marten, Saba, and St. Eustatius.
Erika is expected to weaken into a Tropical Depression by Sunday morning.
